About

Four years ago we decided to move from Maryland to Pennsylvania. I'm a nurse and Les works as a builder. We were looking for a quieter and more peaceful life away from the hustle and bustle of the city. We bought a small farm located in the southwestern part of York County located between Hanover and York. After the first summer of cutting 18Stormy Hill Alpacas - York PA acres of grass it didn't take long to decide that we needed some kind of livestock to eat a lot of our grass. The more grass that gets eaten the less we have to cut! So, Les started to fix the fences surrounding the barn and we began boarding horses, however only half of the farm was horse pasture and the remaining acres still needed to be cut. I started researching the internet for different types of livestock to invest in and came across websites about alpacas. I started reading about these strange looking animals with long necks, big eyes and wonderful soft fleece. A week or so later we went to our first alpacas show and decided that we should start visiting other farms.

By the end of the second summer living here we purchased our first two pregnant alpacas. One bred female that was due not long after we bought the girls and a maiden that was just bred before taking her home. Les built a second barn and started putting up fencing and we brought the girls home at the beginning of December. We have now grown to a total of 15 alpacas. Our grandson, Dylan, has proven to be an all around good farm hand, helping out with every aspect of the farm. These peaceful animals just have a way of relaxing you. It is very calming to stand out in the barn or out in the field among these magnificent creatures. Isn't it amazing how alpacas can totally change a family's lifestyle! After a hard days work it is so very nice to come home to our alpacas!
